Of all the towns in this part of the state, Milton perhaps exemplifies and preserves the way life used to be in historic Delaware. Its history is written in its streets as what lines them pays tribute to its industrial heritage and its relationship to the nearby Broadkill River as it flows into the Delaware Bay. Victorian homes can be found in this small-town setting, which was first established by English planters back in 1675. History and Milton’s shipbuilding heritage remain very important to the town. Some of the state’s finest examples of Victorian and Colonial architecture can be found in town. Many of the homes have been restored to their original form. The area is ripe with new home construction as the area around Rehoboth and Lewes continues to expand inward from the beaches.
